This rescue started with a heartbreaking call. A basset-loving woman reached out after her friend passed away. Her friend’s husband was left caring for 12 bassets in a small double-wide trailer. They had never been outside, had no fenced yard, and were paper-trained. One sweet mama dog was already in labor.
We just said “yes” to helping 11 basset hounds from Arkansas — and now we urgently need foster homes ready to welcome them.
With the help of an incredible local shelter just three miles away, 11 of the dogs were safely taken in (momma stayed behind to deliver her puppies). The timing was a blessing — they were brought to safety just before a major snow and ice storm hit the area.

Now they are being transported to us in the
St. Louis area this Thursday.
Here’s the good news: these are very adoptable dogs. They are friendly with people and each other, walk nicely on leash, and are not food possessive. A few just need to slim down — their former owner loved them, but their diet included marshmallows, cookies, and “extras” on top of dog food.
We need foster homes, foster-to-adopt homes, and adopters ready to move quickly. Boarding is not a long-term option — it costs up to $40 per dog, per day, which adds up fast for a small rescue.
Fostering saves lives, and you will not be doing this alone.
Fosters Provide
• Food, water, patience, and love
• A safe, stable home environment
• Help learning the dog’s personality so we can find the perfect forever match
• Resident dogs must be altered, vaccinated, and on heartworm prevention
• Reliable transportation
Bassets are famous for their gentle personalities, soulful eyes, and world-class snuggling. Fostering is temporary — but the impact you make lasts a lifetime.
If you’ve ever thought about fostering, this is the moment we truly need you.
